Three grandstands, 120 tribal compounds and site-wide services organised as one national landscape celebrating unity, heritage and participation.

In 2024, Evolution produced the Union Parade in Al Wathba for the eighth time, creating a national celebration centred on the unity and heritage of the UAE’s 120 tribes.

The project needed to work at two scales simultaneously. From the grandstands, up to 10,000 guests required a clear view of one unified ceremony; behind the show area, each tribe needed its own operational base, identity and route into the programme.

Evolution approached the site as one national landscape rather than a collection of temporary facilities. Grandstands, tribal compounds, catering, security, branding, technical systems and guest circulation were coordinated to support collective celebration while preserving the role of every participating tribe.

The Challenge

The scale of the Al Wathba site meant that audience experience depended on infrastructure. Long distances, weather exposure and a large participant population required clear movement, reliable services and robust temporary environments throughout rehearsals and live operation.

The 120 tribal tents also needed power, air conditioning and lighting, with separate catering and security support. Those systems had to be distributed consistently without reducing the event to a purely functional site build.

The Solution

Three grandstands were arranged around the principal show area, creating capacity for up to 10,000 attendees and establishing a clear collective viewpoint for the parade.

Behind the ceremonial field, 120 tribe tents formed a structured back-of-house landscape. Each compound received the services required for participants to prepare and operate, while common routes, catering and security areas connected the individual bases into one coordinated system.

Scenic, branding and furniture treatments created consistency across the visible and hospitality environments. Technical systems supported the show and audience areas, while distributed power, air conditioning and lighting maintained the operational readiness of the tribal compounds.

Central production management aligned the site build, supplier programme, rehearsals and live operation, allowing the large temporary environment to support the cultural story rather than compete with it.

Outcome

The completed site gave 120 tribes individual operational presence while presenting the public with one coherent national celebration. Infrastructure, identity and ceremony were connected rather than experienced as separate layers.

That integration allowed the Union Parade to honour the diversity of its participants and the unity of the nation on a scale suitable for royal dignitaries and an audience of up to 10,000.
